World Asteroid Day is coming up!

June 16, 2017 Erin Walsh

Well Hello Moonasaurus Crew!

Welcome to our first blog post, we're supernova honoured to have you with us!

An exciting day is coming up soon: Asteroid Day on June 30th!

Asteroid Day was officially launched in 2015 by its founders Dr. Brian May (Yes that guitarist from Queen!), Danica Remy, Grigori Richters and Rusty Schweickart with the mission to educate as many people about the potential hazards of asteroids, the number of NEO's (Near Earth Objects) there actually are, and our current and future aspirational capabilities to track them and hopefully deflect ones in our path.

I think we can all agree how vital studies and resources are to help this endeavour. Once a big enough asteroid is on its way to us, we're going to want all the available preparation and technology focused on that asteroid deflection mission!

Check out the website here as they have so much great info, along with some great resources for kids too. There are also some cool quiz's to take to test out your asteroid knowledge!

On June 30th this year the 100x Declaration will be opened up to citizens of the world to sign, showing your support for resources going towards this endeavour. If you think protecting our planet as best as possible from asteroids is important then I urge you to consider signing. But here is a video from the astrophysicist Dr. Brian May to explain:)

Now if all this talk about impending doom of asteroids whacking into us is getting you down, then fear not! We have some soft, cuddly and non threatening little asteroids that you can squeeze to relieve your stresses!

Grab your own little asteroid cushion here before or on June 30th 2017 and you will receive a free asteroid brooch (worth $14) too!
